Ongoing¶
Ongoing is the shop-floor status board: every Work Order that is in flight right now, grouped by the line or machine it's running on.
It answers a different question from the rest of Execution. Job Cards and Shift Sign-offs are about your work. Ongoing is about the plant — it shows everything that is running, whoever it belongs to.
Accessing the board¶
Open the Execution sidebar and select Ongoing. It is the first entry in the section.
The board refreshes on its own about once a minute, so it can be left open on a screen on the shop floor.
What counts as "ongoing"¶
A Work Order appears here while it is planned or in progress. It leaves the board once it is completed or cancelled.
Both manufacturing and maintenance Work Orders appear — both are real work happening on the floor. Each row names whatever identifies it: the product for manufacturing work, the asset for maintenance work.
Note
Unlike the rest of Execution, this board is not filtered to you. It deliberately shows every in-flight Work Order in the organisation, because a status board that quietly hid other teams' work would give you a misleading picture of the plant. It only ever shows Work Order totals — never an individual person's entries, and never anyone's sign-off responsibilities.
Reading the board¶
Work Orders are grouped by the line or machine they are planned on, because that is how a shop floor is usually walked — one station at a time. Anything with no line or machine assigned is collected into a group at the bottom; that usually means the Work Order still needs scheduling.
Each row shows:
| Column | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Work Order | The Work Order number, with the product, asset or order it belongs to underneath. Select it to open the Work Order |
| Status | Planned or in progress. High and critical priority work is flagged here too |
| Active Step | The routing step the Work Order is currently sitting on, and how long it's been on it |
| Running For | How long the Work Order has been running, since it actually started. Work that hasn't started yet says so |
| Progress | Quantity produced against the quantity planned, totalled across all the order's Job Cards |
| Rejected / Scrap | Rejected and scrapped quantities, totalled the same way. Shown in red when either is above zero |
| Downtime | Total recorded downtime in minutes, across every shift on every card |
| Job Cards | How many of the order's Job Cards are still open, out of the total |
The figures in Progress, Rejected / Scrap and Downtime come from what people have recorded on the shift entries of that order's Job Cards. If they look low, the likely reason is that a shift hasn't been recorded yet, not that the work isn't happening.
Work Orders on more than one step at once¶
Where a routing splits into parallel branches, a Work Order can legitimately be on several steps at the same time. The board names one of them to keep the row readable. Open the Work Order to see all of its active steps.
The summary along the top¶
Above the board, four totals cover everything currently in flight:
- In progress — how many of the Work Orders on the board have actually started
- Produced — total quantity produced across all of them
- Downtime — total recorded downtime
- Awaiting sign-off — how many shift entries are still waiting to be attested
Select Awaiting sign-off to go to Shift Sign-offs, where you can sign off the ones that are yours. Individual rows carry the same marker where that Work Order has shifts waiting.
This board is for watching, not for recording¶
Nothing is edited here. Every row links out to the Work Order or its Job Cards, which remain the one place work is recorded and signed off. This keeps a single home for each piece of work, so two people looking at the same job can't record conflicting versions of it.
Ongoing and the Gantt Chart¶
The two look at the same Work Orders and answer different questions:
- The Gantt Chart shows what is scheduled, and when.
- Ongoing shows what is happening, right now.
Each page links to the other, so you can move between the plan and the reality without going back through the menus.
