Adding LSV2 Parameters

An LSV2 parameter maps a single data point on a Heidenhain CNC control (via the LSV2 network protocol) to a trackable data point in Enture. Once added, the platform reads the value continuously and makes it available for dashboards, reports, alerts, and real-time views.

Before you begin

  • An LSV2 Device for the control must already exist — create one from Digital Twin → Devices → Create LSV2 Device, supplying the control's IP address and port (and login credentials, only if your control requires elevated access for the values you want to read).
  • You need the Metric Path of the value you want to monitor — see the table below for the supported values.

Metric Path

Unlike Modbus registers or S7 memory offsets, an LSV2 value is addressed by a short, readable path rather than a numeric address. The general form is <value> or <value>.<field> when the value has multiple parts.

Metric Path What it reads Type
machine_mode Current operating mode (e.g. Manual, MDI, Automatic) text
program_status Current program run status (e.g. Started, Stopped, Finished) text
program_stack.main, program_stack.line_no Currently running program and line number text / number
axes_location.X, axes_location.Z, ... Current position of an axis (axis letter depends on the machine) number
override_state.feed, override_state.spindle Current feed/spindle override percentage number
spindle_tool_status.number Currently loaded tool number number
errors.0.e_text, errors.count Text of the most recent error / total number of active errors text / number
machine_time The control's current date and time text
versions.control, versions.nc_sw Control type / NC software version text

Axis letters under axes_location depend on the machine's configuration (not always just X/Y/Z) — use the letter as it's labeled on the control itself. If a Metric Path is typed incorrectly, the parameter simply won't produce data rather than showing an error — double-check it against this table if a parameter stays empty.

Steps

1. Open the LSV2 Device

In the left sidebar, go to Digital Twin → Devices and open the device you want to add a parameter to.

2. Add a parameter

Click Add Parameter.

3. Fill in the parameter details

Field Description
Name A descriptive name for this data point (e.g. Spindle Override, Program Status)
Metric Path The value to read — see the table above
Value Type The data type of the value: Real (float), Integer, String, or Bool
Unit The engineering unit (e.g. %, mm). Optional.
Data Processing Average (mean of samples over the period), Difference, or Negative Difference
Description Notes about this parameter

4. Common settings

Correction Factor, Idle Latency, Entropy, and the related checkboxes (Enable Entropy, Limit Entropy, Remove Negative Entropy, Remove Decimal, Restrict User Access, Calculate Consumption, Disabled) work the same way as on every other protocol — see Common Parameter Settings for details.

5. Save

Click Create. The parameter is added to the device.

Adding multiple parameters via CSV

If you need to add several values from the same control at once, you can upload them as a CSV instead of adding each one individually.

  1. Click Add Parameter, then switch to the CSV Upload tab (next to Single Param).
  2. Set the Batch Defaults — the Idle Latency and checkbox settings that will apply to every row in your file, unless the row has its own Latency value.
  3. Click Download Template to get a CSV file with the correct columns and two example rows.
  4. Fill in the template with your parameters, one row per value. Expand Column Reference on the page for the list of accepted values for Value Type, Latency, Data Processing, and a reminder of the supported Metric Path values from the table above.
  5. Drag and drop the completed file onto the page, or click to browse for it.
  6. Review the preview table. Any row with a problem — a missing value, an unrecognised option, or a Metric Path that's already used elsewhere in the file or already exists on this device — is flagged in red with the reason. Fix the file and re-upload until every row is clear.
  7. Click Upload N rows. Each row is created and its status updates live (Pending → Creating → Created, or Failed with the reason).
  8. If any rows failed, click Download failed rows to get a CSV containing only those rows, so you can correct and re-upload just the ones that didn't go through.

What happens next

The edge device receives the updated parameter list within approximately 30 seconds and begins reading the value from the control.

Viewing live data

  1. Navigate to Digital Twin → Devices → open the device.
  2. Click on the parameter name.
  3. The parameter detail page shows the current value and a real-time chart.

Tip

If you do not see data arriving after a few minutes, verify that:

  • The Metric Path matches one of the supported values exactly (check spelling and axis letters).
  • The control's IP address and port are correct and reachable from the edge device.
  • If the value requires elevated access (e.g. some tool/spindle status values), the device's login credentials are configured.
